NIPIGON — Students in Nipigon continued a Halloween tradition of supporting the Nipigon Foodbank.

Last week, Grade 5 students at St. Edward Catholic School held their fifth annual Halloween Trail, which raises money and collects non-perishable food items.

Superior North Catholic District School Board's notice said that through multiple curriculum areas throughout the months of September and October, Mrs. Currie facilitated the integration of media literacy, drama, visual arts, music and financial literacy curriculum expectations into this activity.

According to the Board, this year's theme was based on such classic fairy tales as: The Wizard of Oz, Goldilocks and the Three Little Bears, the Three Little Pigs, and Alice in Wonderland.

The trail is approximately 400 metres in length. Each turn and twist in the trail revealed a new fairy tale of gentle scares for participants to enjoy. Props were handmade by the students, Mrs. Currie, Mrs. Williams and Ms.Tamminen and strategically placed along the trail with a Halloween and Zombie flare. Visitors walked the single-track path, looking up and down to take in all the effects and props.

Deana Figliomeni, executive administrative assistant and communications officer said that Mrs. Currie was able to impact the entire community of Nipigon.

The school called out for actors/actresses, and everyone who was interested in participating were provided with a part. Each student was able to enter into a character that met their interests and needs.

The fundraising for the event began in September at the Open House, families and students also donated, and the class also ran BINGOs throughout October, with all proceeds going towards the Halloween Trail production.

“A special thank you to Red Rock Indian Band for their financial contribution,” added Figliomeni. “The event would not have been successful without the support of the Nipigon community.”

This year's event attracted more than 200 visitors over the course of the one-hour production.
