Alert by Porcupine Health Unit due to Increases in suspected opioid overdoses

SUPERIOR NORTH REGION—On Nov. 3, 2022, Porcupine Health Unit which serves several townships in the region including:  Hornepayne, Kapuskasing, Smith Rock Falls, Hearst and Timmins, informed these communities of an increase in suspected opioid overdoses.

Their alert informed everyone that there is no consistent description of the drugs causing the overdoses other than potency. According to Porcupine Health Unit, “any drug may contain powerful opioids.”

“People have overdosed and were unaware they were using substances with opioids in them.  If you or someone you know uses substances, get a free naloxone kit at any Porcupine Health Unit office and at most pharmacies,” they explained.
