WAWA—Algoma Public Health launched the Public Health Matters Campaign to celebrate each of the public health “champions” who provide health care services for so many each and every day.
Their announcement encourages the public to take the time to recognize the individuals and the Association of Local Public Health Agencies who in collaboration with local partners and the broader health system, work tirelessly to ensure a healthier population.
They highlighted how the work these health agencies do helps build a healthy population while avoiding the need to draw upon costly and scarce health care resources.
The Public Health Matters Campaign produced a video that highlights the important role that the Association of Local Public Health Agencies does as well as the challenges faced by health care professionals during the pandemic.
The video highlights:
- The impact that the COVID-19 response has had on resources.
- Routine health care services which were postponed as a result of COVID-19 need to be resumed.
- The COVID-19 pandemic put additional demands on public health resources.
- The measurable increase in substance use, and mental health issues.
- Each of Ontario’s local public health agencies had to divert an average of 78 per cent of all available resources to the COVID-19 response.
The key message of the Public Health Matters Campaign is that “Investing in public health generates significant returns including better health, lower health care cost and a stronger economy.”
