Anishinabek police officer faces firearms charges

A senior member of the Anishinabek Police Service faces several firearms charges.

The police service on Friday said that Det.-Staff Sgt. Tony Hanson has been charged with nine counts each of pointing a firearm and careless use of a firearm.

Anishinabek police said they received an internal complaint and requested investigative assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police. The OPP's professional standards bureau conducted an investigation, leading to charges being laid.

No further information has been made available about the nature of the allegations.

Hanson has been suspended with pay and is scheduled to appear in a Marathon courtroom on Aug. 3.
