City of Hornepayne provides update on water advisory

HORNEPAYNE—  The Township of Hornepayne and Ontario Clean Water Agency gave an update regarding a "Boil Water Advisory" issued just hours before. They issued a notice for water distribution repairs, that could possibly result in water interruption and a boil water advisory.

The news release confirmed that on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, the Ontario Clean Water Agency along with an outside contractor, will be performing repairs on the water distribution system on Third Avenue. Work will begin at 8 a.m. with repairs expected to last six to eight hours. As a result, Third Avenue between First and Third street, may experience a disruption in water service.

The notice also explained that, “If a water disruption is necessary, there will be a boil water advisory at the above locations, only when water service is restored.” The township listed the following details for all residents to be aware of during a boil water advisory:

  • The advisory will be issued due to regulations from the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change and the Porcupine Health Unit.
  • The advisory would remain in effect until test results show the water quality is good. Results will be expected back within seven-10 days. Ontario Clean Water Agency/or Township Staff will notify residents when the water advisory has been lifted.
  • A boil advisory means that people that take their water from the municipal system should not drink the water, use it to brush their teeth, or use it to wash dishes or foods, such as vegetables, which will be consumed without cooking. Water should be brought to a rolling boil, and allowed to boil for one minute. People should ensure that water used for cooking comes to a full boil. Otherwise the water is safe for bathing and washing clothes.

For further information, residents are asked to contact the Ontario Clean Water Agency at (807)-868-2380.
