District death toll from COVID-19 climbs to 96

THUNDER BAY — Another resident of the Thunder Bay district who contracted COVID-19 has passed away.

The district health unit on Monday reported the area's 96th fatality in which the virus was either the underlying cause or a contributing factor.

TBDHU's latest published data shows the number of active confirmed COVID-19 cases stands at 84, a decrease of 11 since Friday.

Health officials continue to caution that case counts across Ontario almost certainly are a significant underrepresentation of the virus's presence, since access to molecular testing is limited to vulnerable populations.

Twenty-eight people who have the virus are currently in hospitals in the Thunder Bay district, including four in intensive care.
