NIPIGON -- The period for nominations is said to begin in the Township of Nipigon from May 2, to August 18, from 9:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m.
Nomination Day is Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, from 9 a.m.. to 2 p.m.
Nominations for positions in the office include:
- One nomination for mayor
- Four councilors
- One Trustee for the English Language for Superior-Greenstone District
- To be elected by the electors of Nipigon and the Unorganized areas of Ward 62
- One Trustee for English Language Separate for the Superior North Catholic District School Board
- To be elected by the electors of Nipigon and the Unorganized areas of Ward 62
- Five French Language Separate Trustee for the Conseil Scolair De District Catholique Des Aurores Boreales
- Trustees to be elected at large by the electors of the City of Thunder Bay, Municipalities of Oliver Paipoonge, Neebing and Shuniah, Townships of Dorion, Gillies, O’Connor, Conmee, Nipigon, and RedRock, and Lakehead Locality (Unorganized) within the geographic boundaries of the Conseil scolaire de district Catholique des Aurores boreales.
- One Trustee for French Language Public for the Conseil scolaire Du District Du Grand Nord L’Ontario
- To be elected at large by the electors of the Town of Marathon, the Townships of Manitouwadge, Terrace Bay, Schreiber, Nipigon, Red Rock, & Dorion and Localities (unorganized areas)
The Township of Nipigon would like to remind the public that the nomination fee for Mayor is $200. Trustee and Council nominations are $100.
The township would also like to remind the public that in the result that the number of certified candidates is the same or less than the number to be elected, the elections clerk will immediately declare the candidate or candidates elected by acclamation.
On Aug. 24, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., additional nominations may be filed for the remaining vacancies in the office in respect of which there was an insufficient number of certified candidates. A candidate that wishes to withdraw their additional nomination must notify the clerk in writing before 2 p.m.
