SUPERIOR NORTH -- Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Fort Severn and Peawanuck.
The government weather agency states that temperatures between -26C and -32C with wind chill values between -45 and -50 are expected Monday evening through Tuesday morning.
Clear skies and brisk winds will produce extreme wind chill values Monday evening. Wind chill values will moderate during the day on Monday but return to extreme values Monday night.
Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.
Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
