Five-year tourism plan sets up Terrace Bay

TERRACE BAY — A new five-year plan is meant to boost tourism for the lakeshore municipality.

Terrace Bay council has accepted a five-year tourism marketing plan from special projects coordinator Stacy Moffat, who presented the plan to council on Monday.

Moffat said the plan has two specific objectives.

“The primary objective of the marketing plan is to ensure that visitors stay longer than one night in Terrace Bay’s motels while the secondary objective is to increase the number of visitors during the shoulder seasons [October-April],”Moffat said. “These months typically yield lower numbers of visitors and present an opportunity to increase hotel occupancy.”

The plan utilizes several ways Terrace Bay can boost tourism including placing advertising in several traditional print publications and digital markets.

Although the municipality utilizes digital spaces — such as Instagram and Facebook — already, the plan suggests improvements can be made to create more of a brand identity in its posts.

A marketing survey analysis from a resident survey also suggests that more attention needs to be made to campground accommodations, more cultural and music events, and the mill’s odour.

Moffat said the plan provides key tactics that will guild the municipality over the next five years. This includes partnering with stakeholders, neighbouring municipalities and First Nations, and school boards to help promote and coordinate events and recreational centres.

“These tactics provide a clear and precise direction to meet the marketing objectives for tourism in Terrace Bay, said Moffat. “Decision-making on which tactics to prioritize each year are to be made by the respective parties on the funds and resources available.”

Terrace Bay administration had budgeted $30,000 for website redesign and $20,000 in wayfinding signage and interpretive panel upgrades for 2023.
