Canadian residents will get a chance to drop a line in the water for free for the next nine days.

The province is having free fishing from July 1-9, starting with the Canada Day long weekend.

“To help families celebrate Canada Day, we’re making it easier to get out on the water and experience the world-class fishing opportunities that exist in Ontario,” Natural Resources and Forestry Minister Graydon Smith said in a news release. “Fishing is a fun and affordable way for families to enjoy quality time, while connecting with nature.”

Anyone fishing for free must have government-issued identification showing their name and birth date.

The province is encouraging families to plan a trip or find local events online.
