George O’Neill public school shares letter from director of education

NIPIGON -- The students of George O’Neill Public School shared a letter from Superior Greenstone District School Board’s Director of Education.

The letter offered a link by which families could access a letter from the Director regarding the lifting of restrictions, announced by the Ontario Government, set to begin March 21,2022.

On March 21, 2022, the Ford government will lift most restrictions which were implemented by them as a result of COVID-19.

The director's letter offers an overview of some of these key changes in response to the communication that the Director has received from the Ministry of Education and the Chief Medical Officer of Health on March 9. These changes will take effect in all SGDSB schools on March 21.

The letter speaks specifically about the wearing of masks, vaccination requirements and daily screening expectations. SGDSB indicates in this announcement that it, “strongly encourages staff, students, and visitors to wear masks when in school”. They request that although daily screening will no longer be required, that all staff and students still screen themselves every day.

March Break is often a time for international travel. The board in recognizing this reminds its school community that, “If students engage in international travel, they must wear a mask at school for 14 days”. The schools will still provide masks for all students and staff and the use of HEPA Air filtration systems, will continue.
