GREENSTONE — After s negotiations between the Municipality of Greenstone and CUPE Local 3045, both parties have reached a new collective agreement, which was ratified by unions member yesterday.
“I have to, you know, give, give thanks to both the union bargaining committee and the employer bargaining committee," CUPE Local 3045 representative Mike Walters said. "We did the deal over four straight days of bargaining and on the last day, we went quite late. Both teams came together and worked together really, really well and were able to achieve a deal that we think works for both parties.”
The collective agreement will provide 60 frontline departmental CUPE members, including day care, public works, and parks and recreation, a four-year collective agreement with wage increases of 2.8 per cent in the first year, to a 2.9 increase in the last year of the collective agreement.
“We also got some improvements around the holiday pay and scheduling language,” Walters said.
Walters said the updated language around vacations will allow staff to request vacation time in advance to allow more flexibility for both the employer and the union member when it comes to scheduling.
“I think both parties are pleased to say that we are extremely happy with the deal we reached,” said Walters.
Greenstone Mayor James McPherson told CFNO Radio that the agreement was “tremendous news for the community and the workers. Special thanks to the negotiating groups who put it together for us.”
