THUNDER BAY – Twenty new cases of COVID-19 are being reported on Thursday in the District of Thunder Bay.
The new count brings the total active number of cases to 70, the highest in the district since Dec. 13, when there were 71.
Fourteen previously announced cases were considered resolved, according to data released by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.
There were no new hospitalizations since Wednesday’s totals were released.
Since the pandemic began there have 3,867 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the district, with 3,728 considered resolved. There have also been 69 deaths, the most recent announced on Dec. 17.
Of the new cases, five are related to travel outside of Northwestern Ontario, four are considered close contact and one is related to household contact The origin of six more is still under investigation and the cause of four others is unknown. One case is deemed household contact.
Province-wide, 5,790 new cases were announced, jumping the active case count to 32,412, 4,124 more than Wednesday.
