Hornepayne Airport upgrades nearing completion

Mayor of Hornepayne Cheryl Fort

HORNEPAYNE – Upgrades to the Hornepayne Airport are almost complete.

Mayor Cheryl Fort says work on the airport is about 98 per cent finished.

“We do have some fuel tanks that need upgrading this fall that will continue, but the airport is open, ready for landings and takeoffs,” Fort said in an interview with CFNO.

She added, the completion of these upgrades are important for health care.

"We need quick, efficient ways when there is an emergency or our family members or ourselves need emergency medical care, we need to get out of our small communities.

The airport underwent nearly $5 million in improvements with a repaved runway, new runway LED lighting, and installation of a new fuel tank and pump system.

The town is contributing $323,262 to the improvements.
