NIPIGON — Hwy 17 and 11 has reopened after being closed for several hours because of bad weather and poor driving conditions.
The local law enforcement had closed parts of Highway 11 and Highway 17 for bad weather conditions east of Nipigon overnight on Wednesday.
It remained closed throughout the day on Wednesday and into the early evening.
Environment Canada had weather advisories in place for Nipigon, stating that travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Surfaces like highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.
Manitouwadge and Hornepayne also had winter storm warnings in effect, with Environment Canada predicting heavy snowfall of 10 to 15 centimetres on Wednesday.
