Impaired driver charged following public complaints

MANITOUWADGE — The Marathon OPP have arrested and charged a 24-year-old resident for driving impaired following public complaints while at a community event in Manitouwadge.

Officers were travelling along the parade route of an event on Manitou Road and Ohweken Road when bystanders alerted them of the erratic driver in the vicinity at roughly 6:10 p.m. on Friday.

As a result of the investigation, the police were able to locate the vehicle and driver at a residence nearby, leading to one individual being taken into custody, according to a media release issued by the OPP on Sunday.

The resident has been charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus and dangerous operation.

The Individual is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in late August.

The OPP thanked the community for their awareness and prompt action.

If someone is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the police encourage the public to call 911, as their call could save lives.
