TERRACE BAY—Leadership skills and the importance of community involvement, be it as a volunteer or through employment, has always been a long-term goal behind many curriculum expectations for Ontario students.
Each school Board in Ontario has been mandated by the Ontario government to have student representation on their Board of Trustees for years. In support of that expectation, Lake Superior High School is encouraging students entering grade 11 or 12 next year to consider running for “Student Trustee” in the coming election.
Requirements of course include that the student must be entering Grade 11 or 12 next year and is passionate about being the voice of all students in their school as well as working for what they see is important change.
As a student trustee, they will work with members of Superior Greenstone District School Board, by representing the voice of all SGDSB students.
The successful student trustee must attend all board meetings and create reports and presentations when required.
Communicating with students in the community, and listening to what students communicate to them as important issues, is an important role the student trustee will have.
There are other important requirements that any student hoping to run for this position should be aware of. Those include:
- having a passing grade in all courses
- attending a secondary school operated by the board as a full time student
- remembering that the term is for two years.
If are a student who is interested in this amazing leadership position let your school principal know or email the current student trustee, Erin Couture- erincout@student.sgdsb.on.ca and Grace Molinski at gracmoli@student.sgdsb.on.ca for more information.
