MANITOUWADGE – Barrick Hemlo mine has generously donated $500,000 towards upgrades on the Manitouwadge Community Centre, a press release issued by Barrick Gold Corporation said.

The Community Centre is a vibrant hub for residents, offering summer and winter programs that include a full-service fitness facility, arena, curling rink and a library.

The centre also features an auditorium for community events and programs that promote an active and engaged community life year-round.

The extensive upgrades will include installation of a new roof, a modern boiler system, a revamped HVAC system and significant improvements to the accessibility of entrances and washrooms, the release said.

An elevator will be added to ensure the facility is accessible for all residents.

In recognition of Barrick’s substantial commitment, the Town of Manitouwadge is proud to name the auditorium the Barrick Auditorium, the release said.

This honours Barrick’s dedication to creating long-term value and highlights the significant role the company plays in fostering social and economic development in local communities.

The community centre upgrade project is a vital initiative aimed at providing families with access to essential services and a broad range of recreational activities, ensuring an overall healthier community.

“At Barrick, we understand the importance of supporting the communities in which we operate,” Barrick Hemlo General Manager Chris Stewart said in the release.

“Supporting health-related initiatives is one of the pillars of our community development programs and, as such, we are proud to partner with the Township of Manitouwadge to provide residents with access to quality health and well-being services,” he said.

Together, Barrick and the Township of Manitouwadge are committed to share a vision of fostering a healthy and active community, Stewart said.
