Manitouwadge provides update on the emergency response capabilities of fire department

NEWS RELEASE
TOWNSHIP OF MANITOUWADGE
**********************************

The Township of Manitouwadge would like to update the residents regarding the Emergency Response capabilities of the Manitouwadge Fire Department.

Currently, there are 15 active volunteers on the Manitouwadge Fire Department, including acting fire chief Earl Grigg, three officers and 11 firefighters.

In recent social media posts, it has been suggested that the public test the emergency response capabilities of the Manitouwadge Fire Department in a mock exercise.

Acting fire chief Earl Grigg states, “the Manitouwadge Fire Department trains on a weekly basis to respond to all kinds of emergencies and, on occasion, initiates a practice fire response drill to assist the members in keeping up their emergency response time through coordinated and professional training. The public is discouraged from testing the response capabilities of the Manitouwadge Fire Department and that false alarms are an offence under the Criminal Code of Canada and could result in both criminal charges and heavy fines."

The mayor, council and staff at the Township of Manitouwadge have full confidence in acting fire chief Earl Grigg and the Manitouwadge Fire Department that they are ready and able to respond to an emergency situation, if required. We wish to take this time to wish all residents a safe, peaceful and Merry Christmas.
