MANITOUWADGE – The Manitouwadge Volunteer Fire Department is once again helping keep the community warm and safe by providing helpful tips.
This week the fire department is sharing winter storm tips to keep families warm and safe this winter season.
Officials say most cold-season power failures happen when winter storms bring freezing rain, sleet and high winds that damage power lines and equipment.
Without a steady supply of heat, your home can suffer dampness and it could damage walls, floors and plumbing.
Before you take action, fire department says, make sure the outage goes beyond your home.
It is important to check breakers or fuses and the power lines to your house.
Official warn if the lines are damaged or down, stay back and call your electric company.
