MARATHON—With election day just days away, and with the Township of Marathon only using online voting, township administration is hoping that voter turnout will be much higher than during the last Municipal election.
Access to online voting began on October 14, and continues until Oct. 24, which is election day. Residents have been given access to online voting on a 24/7 basis, with voting kiosks and voting stations for those needing assistance or an electronic device, all available at the Town Hall.
These services have been made available since Oct. 14, Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and on voting day as well, Oct. 24, 2022.
In addition, in order to keep voters lists up to date, residents were asked by the Township’s administration to ensure that the PIN letters that they receive are in fact theirs. “We ask if you receive PIN letters that are not addressed to you or addressed to people no longer living at your residence to please "return to sender" at Canada Post or bring to Town Hall, or call Louise Lees, Deputy Clerk, at 229-1340 ext. 2223.”
In a recent notice on the Township’s social media page, residents were encouraged, by administration, to take advantage of online voting and reminded them that those needing assistance or access to an electronic device need only contact their Town Hall.
The main message residents were given on this notice by the Township was twofold. First, they were informed of what the voter turn-out was in 2018. According to their results only 33% of voters submitted a ballot. Second, residents were sent out the message, “We can do better!”
