TERRACE BAY—Terrace Bay’s McCausland Hospital is looking for community input in order to better determine and understand the future health care needs of their community.
In an effort to gain this input, they are asking community members to complete an online survey.
According to the North of Superior Health Care Group, (NOSH) who is spearheading this survey, the fundamental purpose of it is to, “gain information that would help enhance with the McCausland Hospital Redevelopment Project.”
McCausland Hospital which was built 40 years ago, has been the primary health care center servicing the communities of Terrace Bay, Schreiber, Pawagwasheeng Pays Plat First Nation, and Rossport for approximately 50 years. It is hoped this survey will help the NOSH group determine the future healthcare needs of these communities as well as support continued collaboration with health care partners in order to help provide high-quality health care services.
In addition, NOSH assured participants in the survey that it is completely anonymous and information shared will be kept in strict confidence.
Once respondents taking the survey go to the following link: www.nosh.ca/mhr-survey they will see questions about where they live and if McCausland hospital is the closest one to them.
A key question asks respondents to choose what clinical hospital services are important to them and to indicate what types of health care services they have had to travel outside of Terrace Bay to access.
In addition, the survey hopes to learn about what other health care services respondents would want to see in the hospital in order to improve the quality of care in their community.
In relation to the the future and the type of health care service, NOSH wants to determine what changes the respondents see as integral necessary health care needs in their community, in the future. Additionally, they want to learn about any unique characteristics that their community has that should be considered when planning the health care services that McCausland Hospital will provide for the next 20 years.
On April 29, 2022, the Ontario government announced it was investing $1 million to help modernize and expand NOSH’s McCausland Hospital site. Thus, the current McCausland Hospital Redevelopment plan, which will focus on enhancing emergency services and upgrading the aging infrastructure was developed.
These upgrades are meant to better serve Terrace Bay and surrounding communities. At the time that this funding was announced, the Deputy Minister and Minister of Health, Christine Elliot, spoke about the benefits of enhancing emergency services and indicated that, “This investment will ensure the hospital can better address the needs of local families and provide much-needed services in the community for many years to come.”
