MANITOUWADGE — Jim Moffat took down an incumbent to become the next mayor of Manitouwadge.
Moffat, a one-term councillor, defeated former chief administrative officer Margaret Hartling and incumbent mayor John MacEachern to win the township's mayoral race.
Moffat earned 576 votes, outpacing Hartling's tally of 138 and MacEachern's 118 votes.
MacEachern had spent a total of 12 years as mayor over three non-consecutive terms.
A local business owner, Moffat said during the campaign he would focus on improving infrastructure and building stronger relationships with nearby First Nations communities.
Moffat will be joined at the council table by councillors-elect Kathy Hudson, Michael Scapinello, Coady Keough and Braden Kotyk.
