Ontario Provincial Police lay impaired driving charge in Greenstone

GERALDTON — Provincial police in Greenstone have charged a 24 year-old man with impaired driving after a traffic stop over the weekend.

In a media release issued Monday, police said they stopped a speeding vehicle around midnight on May 3 on Main Street in Geraldton. Officers then determined the driver, who is from Batchewana First Nation, was impaired by alcohol or drugs. He was taken to the OPP Greenstone detachment for further testing, police said.

The accused faces several charges under the criminal code and highway traffic act, including impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol concentration of over 80 mg, driving with cannabis available and failing to show a licence and insurance.

The man was released from custody with a June 19 court date in Geraldton.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when we are unlikely to follow the case to its conclusion in the courts.
