ORILLIA — Throughout the annual Canada Road Safety Week campaign, the Ontario Provincial Police, along with national policing partners will conduct a strong enforcement and education blitz focused on distracted driving, speeding, alcohol and drug impaired driving and other risky road behaviours.

Ontario Provincial Police has reported that since 2012 the number of people killed in road collisions reached the 100 mark by the second week of May. This fact is the latest reminder that so many drivers still think that their risky road behaviours is inconsequential to themselves and others around them.

This year’s Canada Road Safety Week campaign theme is “Safer You. Safer Me”, which the Ontario Provincial Police believes will serve to highlight the importance surrounding the decisions that drivers make on our highways, and how those decisions not only affect them, but passengers and other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Canada Road Safety Week—"Safer You. Safer Me” runs May 17 until May 23, 2022. According to their announcement, this is an “enforcement-driven initiative led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.” Its purpose is to increase public awareness and compliance with safe driving measures to help save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.
