THUNDER BAY--Ontario Provincial Police laid an average of 180 charges a day on roads, trails and waterways in Northwestern Ontario from June 25th through the Canada Day weekend.
OPP have just released data related to enforcement of traffic and boating regulations during the nine-day period.
They laid a total of 1,612 charges and issued hundreds of warnings.
The focus of the blitz was on impaired driving, seatbelt usage, aggressive driving, distracted driving and on the use of lifesaving equipment such as helmets and personal flotation devices.
In the Thunder Bay area, the most common offence was speeding, with officers laying 468 charges.
The Greenstone area led the Northwest with seatbelt-related charges, with a total of eleven.
The Kenora area had the highest number of impaired driving charges, with 16 in one week.
During the enforcement blitz, OPP also issued 374 warnings to drivers and boaters.
