HORNEPAYNE — Mental Health week this year will be recognized from May 2, 2022 to May 8, 2022. Porcupine Health Unit believes that since the COVID-19 pandemic began, many have experienced significant stress, uncertainty and anxiety, all which has challenged their mental health.
Canadians, in all cities and provinces, are returning to our pre-pandemic activities, so in the opinion of PHU, “Now is the time to focus on the Five Ways to Well-Being; a proven approach to improve mental health.”
This year’s Mental Health Week’s theme is “EMPATHY” and the Canadian Mental Health Association, describes this as;
- Listening to understand someone’s feelings
- When someone is struggling, tuning in by looking in their eyes.
- Seeing the world as others do
- #Getready about how you can help
The PHU is offering workplaces a resource toolkit to help promote mental well-being. It includes:
- Daily desktop backgrounds for each of the Five Ways to Well-Being.
- Resources suitable for in-house and waiting room screens.
- Medicine wheel images.
- Daily messages for each of the Five Ways to Well-Being.
In addition, the PHU is hosting a virtual information “Lunch and Learn” session. During that time, businesses, workplaces and organizations, interested, will learn about the Five Ways to Well-Being.
PHU lists the Five Ways to Well-Being as:
- Connect, talk and listen-connect with others
- Take notice-appreciate the little things
- Be active
- Keep learning-embrace new experiences
- Give: your time-your words-your presence
