SUPERIOR NORTH -- Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for parts of the region.
The government weather agency says periods of rain are expected over the region beginning Wednesday afternoon and continuing through Thursday morning.
Total rainfall amounts are forecast to be in the 20 to 40 millimetre range before a change to snow occurs Thursday afternoon for Nipigon - Marathon - Superior North and Wawa - White River - Pukaskwa areas.
The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall.
Rain may change to freezing rain overnight as temperatures fall to near zero. A freezing rain warning may be issued.
A freezing rain warning is already in effect for the Lake Nipigon - Wabakimi area.
Freezing rain is expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Several hours of freezing rain with 5 mm of ice accretion possible.
