SCHREIBER—Spring residential clean-up will be the focus for Schreiber residents for the next week. The municipality set out clear and specific guidelines for the process to be followed for waste storage, pick-up and such things as the maintenance of grass and weeds.
From May 14-21, the landfill site will be open free of charge to assist residents with disposing of waste according to the following hours:
- 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 14;
- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 16 to Friday, May 20; and
- 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 21.
The landfill site will be CLOSED from May 22 to May 24 inclusive and will resume operation with regular hours and fees Wednesday, May 25, 2022.
The municipality also posted information about south side of the Subway pickup, telling residents that all materials must be placed out by Sunday, May 15 to be picked up on Monday and Tuesday; crews will not backtrack.
North side of the Subway and Walkers Lake pick up requires that all materials be placed out by Tuesday, May 17, to be picked up on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The municipality further added some restrictions clarifying that pick up applies to residential properties only, as commercial and business properties will not be included.
A special note indicated that: "Public Works will not pick up derelict vehicles (i.e., old cars trucks, or trailers). These items can be delivered to the landfill site by the residential owner and no tipping fees will apply."
Guideline for these pick-up dates included that Hazardous Waste Recycling Day will be Friday, June 3, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tourism Information Center Parking Lot in Terrace Bay.
Schreiber residents were also reminded of the municipality’s ByLaw 26-2022, which came into effect June 23, 2020. This refers to land maintenance and storage of materials on residential property. The Bylaw stipulates guidelines and expectations for: maintenance of land, littering and dumping, maintenance of grass and weeds, inoperative motor vehicle storage, and grading and filling of land.
Should more information be required, residents are asked to visit www.schreiber.ca or call Bylaw enforcement at (807)-824-2711 ext. 227
