Rise in COVID-19 cases postpones thanksgiving celebration

NIPIGON — Due to increased cases of COVID-19 in the region, and in their school, students and staff of George O’Neill Public School, are being asked to continue to do their daily screening before coming to school.

As a result of their concerns, the school also informed their families that the Thanksgiving feast will be postponed until May 27, 2022 when it is hoped that the school will be able to hold this celebration outdoors at that time.

In addition, the school community is being asked to wear masks in order to keep their schools healthy and open.

George O'Neill Public School also indicated that Rapid tests are available for all families at the main office but must be picked up by an adult. Families should inform their child’s teacher if they require a rapid test, in order to make this process easier.

In the meantime, they ask families to continue to use the Ontario Screening Tool daily and they encourage everyone to wear a mask!
