SCHREIBER — Kevin Mullins is ready to move forward as Schreiber's mayor after what he views as overwhelming support from the community in the municipal election.

Mullins, who took over after former mayor Dave Hamilton passed away in 2021, won his first municipal mayoral election.

Mullins will be leading Schreiber's council with Anne-Marie Bourgeault, Benjamin Bryson, Daniel McGrath and Dave Mauro who were elected to council.  In a previous interview during the cammpaign, he said that the new council will need to begin plans that will focus on revitalizing the downtown core, creating economic development, housing, and developing closer relationships with key partners, groups, businesses and surrounding townships.

Mullins said he is happy with the new council that was voted in and thanked the outgoing council members as well.

“I feel really good about it and the overwhelming support from the residents of Schreiber. I feel that there was no substance to the thinking that we haven’t done anything in the past few years. We have moved forward quite a bit with projects considering the pandemic we faced. We are moving forward,” Mullins said.

Mullins said housing as a huge priority for Schreiber.

“One of the first things to tackle and talk about would be the housing and senior support of housing.  Housing in general, as Schreiber has none right now,” he said.

Schreiber CAO Nathan Dias said he has an excellent working relationship with the mayor-elect.

“Kevin has 39 years of experience working in both the political realm as councillor, and as worker with the township. During that time, and his period working with council, he has shown that he has understood the nuances of council. I am looking forward to an excellent four years working with Kevin,” Dias said.
