Schreiber--This week-end promises to have plenty of things for the residents of Schreiber to do. Schreiber Public Library is organizing their children’s Annual Heritage Days Bocce Ball tournament, as part of the Township of Schreiber Heritage Days celebration that kicks off this week-end.

The tournament caters to children ages five to sixteen years of age; with three categories: ages five to eight, nine to twelve, and 13-16 years of age.

Schreiber public library CEO, Linda Williamson was very excited about sharing information about the tournament. She described how this tournament has been part of their Heritage Days celebrations since 1999.

“Throughout the years the tournament has been organized for both kids and adults, with the children’s tournament taking place in the afternoon and the adult once in the evening,” said Williamson.

As she continued to share about the history of this tournament Williamson talked about how even during the pandemic last year, the Schreiber Senior Group decided to take over the tournament for the adults. “It wasn’t just for Heritage Days at the time. The senior group decided to try having the tournament last September to see how it would go. They had a great time,” explained Williamson.

Williamson joked about how for the senior adult group the tournament tends to be a bit more serious that that for the young children saying that, “for the adults you better be measuring properly, because they’re going to be on you to make sure,” she added.

This year, for Schreiber Heritage Days, the children’s Bocce ball tournament will run on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 in the afternoon. The adult Bocce ball tournament will also be on July 19, but between 7 p.m.- 11:00 p.m.

The Bocce ball tournament for both children and adults will take place at their Municipal Ball Field, something new this year. Williamson pointed out that, “In previous years it was held at St. Andrew’s United Church, but this year it has been moved,” she reminded residents.

During the adult Bocce ball tournament Williamson stated that the senior’s group will also be hosting a BBQ and that there will be a beer garden.
