GREENSTONE — Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch and for rainfall warning for the Greenstone and the surrounding area, including Armstrong and Manitouwadge.
It's reported that conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts up to 90 km/hr, large hail ranging from the size of toonies to golf balls. There's also the possibility of heavy rainfall.
It's advised that If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail.
Between 50 and 100 millimetres of rain is expected to fall.
Some areas have already received up to 50 mm of rain and heavy showers and thunderstorms will continue to move through the area tonight, according to the alert.
Environment Canada warns that heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads and localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas.
Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.
