NIPIGON, ON — Highway 11 was closed Tuesday afternoon in both directions north of Nipigon after a sinkhole developed in the middle of the road.
The incident occurred just west of Orient Bay, according to Ontario511, which first reported the closure at 3:34 p.m.
The highway was closed between Beardmore and the Highway 17 junction.
Subsequent updates on Ontario511 referred to the highway being damaged by a washout.
It said traffic control was in place.
There was no estimate of when the highway might reopen.
