Skilled Trades virtual event to increase awareness of career opportunities

TERRACE BAY -- A virtual event will help promote and increase awareness for career opportunities available in skilled trades, technology and the apprenticeship pathway.

Superior Greenstone District School Board in partnership with six Northwestern Ontario School Boards and Edge Factor, will once again be hosting a virtual event to promote and increase awareness of career opportunities available in skilled trades, technology and the apprenticeship pathway. The event is scheduled for May 11, and May 12 and will feature what SGDSB describes as, “Live presentations and high-impact career exploration media.”

The focus group for this event is Grades 6-12 classes, who will be participating in the daytime sessions, while families will have the opportunity to participate in the evening sessions.

SGDSB wants parents, guardians, caregivers and students to know that their Save The Date-Educator/Family Flyers for this virtual event, are available on their website: www.sgdsb.on.ca

Families interested in participating should watch for the official registration flyers, which will be sent out on Wednesday, April 27. SGDSB will be hosting an Educator/Class Daytime Event, during which educators can participate with their classes in the morning, (10:10 a.m.-11:25 a.m.) and/ or afternoon (1:45 p.m.-3 p.m.) sessions. Finally, the family evening event will run 7 p.m.-8:15 p.m. Those parents, guardians and caregivers wanting to participate can register with Shawna Grouette at: sgrouette@sgdsb.on.ca

As a final note, SGDSB wishes to inform everyone participating, that these sessions will be recorded and made available for staff, students, and families to access after the event. A series of pre-recorded content will also be accessible in Edge Factor.
