Still time to send feedback to Hornepayne Community improvement Plan Committee

HORNEPAYNE— The Township of Hornepayne hosted its first public information forum centered around its Community Improvement Plan, but wants its individuals, families, community groups and organizations and the business community to know that there is still time to share their feedback.

The township's community improvement plan public information session, was held on June 15. It was an opportunity for mayor and council to share what the committee has been doing during the past year regarding the plan.

Although according to Mayor Cheryl Fort, it is still very early in this process, council and mayor want to hear from individuals, groups, organizations, and businesses, so that they can learn from them, what vision they have for the community of Hornepayne.

Donna Hines, a landscape architect by training, and a partner in a group that forms the planning partnership working with at developing this Community Improvement Plan, along with Clark Hoskin, whose role is to nail down the financial incentive programs, have both been working closely with city staff and Economic Development Officer, Stacy Rendell. Together the group formulated a working structure for this plan that included the following areas:

  • Regional Economic Development
  • Housing needs and demand
  • Asset management plan
  • Township strategic plan
  • Township official plan

Ultimately this working group identified their goal as one focused on revitalization, rehabilitation and improvement in order to develop a step- by- step guide for the development and implementation of this plan. This revitalization and rehabilitation framework, helped to define the township’s economic development strategic plan that focused on four target sectors.

The four target sectors are:

  • Tourism
  • Forestry and forest products
  • Mining and
  • Local alternative energy

Fort called on the community of Hornepayne to give their feedback by stating that, “This is your community, your family, your business, what do you want the future of your community to look like.”
