Stunt driver clocked at 148 km/h

SHUNIAH, Ont. – A 72-year-old motorist from Quebec faces a stunt driving charge after being clocked at nearly 150 km/h on Highway 11-17 in the Shuniah area.

The driver was stopped around 1 p.m. on Saturday over the long weekend by OPP officers from the Thunder Bay OPP detachment who were conducting radar enforcement in Shuniah Township.

The driver was observed travelling at 148 km/h, police stated in a release.

The driver, from Wentworth, Que., was charged with one count of Perform Stunt - Excessive Speed.

The accused also received a 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment. The driver is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay at a later date, police said.
