SAULT STE. MARIE -- Sault Police say a suspect has been charged after a man provided a false identity when being questioned following a report of a suspicious person.
The suspect also faces drug-related charges.
Sault Ste. Marie Police say that yesterday at around 4:30 a.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a suspicious person in a parking lot in the 400 block of Pim Street.
When officers arrived they say a suspect they questioned provided a false identity, police said in a news release.
Police say the officers recognized the suspect, who had a warrant out for his arrest for failure to comply with a release order.
The suspect was arrested and a subsequent search found the accused to be in possession of approximately eight grams of suspected fentanyl, police allege.
The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $1,688.
Taylor Botham, 30, is charged with:
- Possession of Schedule I Substance for Purpose of Trafficking
- Personation with Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution, or Obstruct Justice
- Failure to Comply with Release Order x2
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Botham is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
