SUV lands on ice-covered lake after Highway 17 collision

MARATHON — One person suffered serious injuries and three others sustained minor injuries in a collision Monday on Highway 17 east of Marathon.

Ontario Provincial Police said the single-vehicle accident happened at Dunc Lake, about 50 kilometres from Marathon.

Photos released by OPP show a damaged compact SUV on the lake after it apparently went out of control, left the roadway, and travelled onto the ice before coming to a stop.

The injured individuals were all taken to hospital for treatment.

There's no word yet on what caused the collision.

OPP collision reconstructionists are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
