Traffic stop leads to impaired charges

NIPIGON -- A traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon has resulted in charges for one Nipigon resident.

According to Ontario Provincial Police release, officers initiated a traffic stop on Tuesday, Aug. 9 just before 6 p.m. on Highway 11/17, in the Township of Nipigon after noting suspicious driving behaviour.

Police say the operator of the motor vehicle had been consuming alcohol.

The officer made a demand for an approved screening device breath sample. The driver provided a sample resulting in a fail reading. The driver was placed under arrest and returned to the detachment for further tests.

As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old, of Nipigon, was charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused was released by way of appearance notice with a Nipigon court date on Sept. 13, to answer to the charges.
