UPDATED: Trans-Canada Highway reopened from Marathon to White River

MARATHON — A long stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway north of Lake Superior was reopened late Tuesday afternoon after being closed much of the day because of flooding and weather conditions.

The Ministry of Transportation had reported both lanes of Highway 17 were shut down between Marathon and White River.

At 4:09 pm, MTO reported traffic was permitted in that section again.

An OPP spokesperson said one lane had been reopened for alternating traffic at the site of a washout near the Hemlo gold mines.

OPP said earlier in the day the closure was also connected to snow on the highway, and poor visibility, and that Highway 17 was closed in the Wawa area as well due to flooding.

Updates on road conditions are available online from Ontario 511.
