Watermain relining project little impact on property access

NIPIGON—Homeowners and occupants between Railway Street from Ninth Street and Sixth Avenue were assured by Nipigon Public Works that the water main relining project will not impact property access.

Geoff Aitken, public works staff, shared a public notice from his office describing the specifics of the proposed construction work. In it he indicates that the water main relining will begin June 6, 2022 and is expected to be completed by June 10.

The areas affected will see construction work that requires the installation of a temporary water main to the residents of Railway Street impacted by the project. Once this phase of the project is complete further construction will be necessary, including:

  • The replacement of aged valves.
  • The placing of cement mortar lining in the existing six inches diameter water main.
  • Disinfecting the water main after construction.
  • Collection of microbiological samples before placing the water main back into service.

Nipigon Public works confirmed that after June 10, 2022, the expected completion date for this project, “The water main will be back in service. Valve replacement will commence after the relining is complete.”
