Wawa and Area Food Strategy presents Backyard Farmers

WAWA— The Wawa and Area Food Strategy, (WAFS) announced that it will be presenting their Backyard Farmers 2022 “How To” Workshops.

The organization’s announcement, on April 11, spoke about the uniqueness of the city of Wawa’s agricultural landscape, and how their workshops focus on helping residents turn their backyards into “mini farms”. Another key goal of WAFS is to strengthen their local food system.

Some of their planned workshops will present such topics as: Build My First Raised Bed, and Build a Lettuce Vertical Garden. Many of their workshops have a limit of 15 residents, with all materials and seeds included.

They expressed their view that, “Growing agricultural knowledge and capacity is one of the strategies to attain a better level of food autonomy. The purpose of the Backyard Farmers is to form a community of individuals interested in growing food and exchange knowledge, harvest and seeds with their neighbours.”
