Winter storm warning remains in effect for some areas

SUPERIOR NORTH -- A winter storm warning remains in effect for parts for some areas.

Environment Canada says a major winter storm is tracking over northern Ontario and has brought heavy snow and blowing snow to the region.

Over eastern sections, including Ogoki, the snow may briefly become mixed with ice pellets Thursday morning.

Total snow fall amounts of 20 to 30 centimetres are possible before the snow tapers off Thursday evening.

Total snowfall amounts near 30 centimetres are expected for areas north of Nakina, including Little Current River Provincial Park with several hours of freezing rain possible Thursday morning for areas east of Nakina, including Pagwa River and Nagagamisis Provincial Park.

The government weather agency says strong wind gusts up to 60 kilometres an hour is expected.
