SUPERIOR NORTH – Those travelling Thursday afternoon through the evening should exercise caution due to weather conditions, warns Environment Canada.
The agency declared a winter weather travel advisory Thursday morning, stating rain will transition to snow near noon as temperatures rapidly fall.
As a result, roads and sidewalks could become slippery.
The snow will continue into Thursday evening by which time 5 to 10 centimetres of new snowfall can be expected.
Strong northwesterly winds gusting up to 60 kilometres an hour will also accompany the snow, resulting in reduced visibilities in blowing snow at times. These strong winds will also weaken in the evening.
Travel may become difficult due to the snow and local blowing snow. Strong winds may also result in local power outages.
Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly.
Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.
