MANITOUWADGE—World Down Syndrome Day is marked each year on March. The 21st day of the 3rd month signifies the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome.
St. Joseph Catholic School students and staff, celebrated this day, by wearing their “Loudest, Craziest, and most FUN pair of mismatched socks. In that way, by participating in the “Rock Your Socks” celebration they helped “raise public awareness and create a single global voice for advocating for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down syndrome”.
The Down Syndrome Association of Toronto organizes the “Rock Your Socks” awareness campaign each year to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day.
Students and staff from St. Joseph Catholic School, were very eager to participate in this event as they came together as a school community to not only raise awareness but to also show their support.
March 21, was their day to come together as a school community, engage with each other in a similar way and increase their own understanding and awareness of the importance this important day.
