Pursuit: Wawa minor hockey association announces special award

WAWA — It has been a very eventful hockey season for Wawa minor hockey, with planning and organizing overshadowed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, president Zach White wasted little time to acknowledge the great work that everyone in the Wawa minor hockey community did this year.

Their year-end ceremony, held in early June, highlighted the work of all executive members, coaches, trainers, managers, helpers, the kids, their parents and high school volunteers. One special young person was given special recognition for giving of her time and talent.

Starskater, Delaney Schumacher, has been lending her excellent skating skills to the Wawa Minor Hockey Association this year and was awarded most dedicated volunteer, by association president Zach White.

Schumacher is a figure skater, skating with Wawa figure skating club and her club does not hesitate to share that she represents her club well, both on and off the ice.

According to Wawa Figure Skating Club, Schumacher has represented the club well in the past. Delaney competed at the Skate Ontario Provincial Championships. The club featured her on their Facebook page, stating that, “Delaney skated four programs and finished fourth in Bronze Triathlon and 16th in STAR 8.

Off the ice, she not only symbolizes a role model for her peers, but also for youngsters aspiring to be as good a skater as she is.

Wawa minor hockey, celebrated her accomplishment as a frequent volunteer for their organization, presenting Schumacher with their “Most dedicated volunteer” award. Schumacher shares her own skating talent by helping others on the ice.

Club president Zach White was pleased to present her with this award.
