The world No 2 fired the perfect leg during a gripping contest against Josh Rock at the Winter Gardens, helping him battle back from 6-1 down to claim a 17-14 victory and remain favourite to lift the Phil Taylor Trophy.
Littler was barely six months old when Wade won the 2007 World Matchplay, with 'The Nuke' now having the opportunity to break his record as the youngest winner in the tournament's history.
As well as Humphries, Luke Littler who will be favourite to seal the title also returns this time around. As will Van Gerwen, Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright, Gary Anderson, Nathan Aspinall and Stephen Bunting.
Littler reached the final of this year's World Matchplay after overcoming in-form Josh Rock 17-14 in a pulsating semi-final on Saturday.
After initially being 5-0 down, Littler produced a timely nine-darter to galvanise himself before putting Rock to the sword with some ruthless scoring.
The other semi-final in Blackpool was another classic as James Wade got over the line against Jonny Clayton with a dramatic 20-18 win, after he had earlier been 16-10 ahead in a race to 17.
Despite Wade's consistent performances throughout the week, Littler is the overwhelming favourite to beat the 2007 World Matchplay champion.
Victory for the world champion would see him become only the fifth player to win the Triple Crown after Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen, Luke Humphries and Gary Anderson.
