Environment and Community Relations Specialist


Clean Air Metals is a well funded mine exploration and development company committed to a low carbon, clean energy future. The Company is moving into feasibility studies around sustainable development of a suite of critical metals at its Thunder Bay North Critical Minerals Project. We are looking for an Environment and Community Relations Specialist in our Thunder Bay, ON office.


Reporting to the Director of Permitting, Sustainability and Community Relations, the successful individual will be responsible for assisting with the completion of all environmental studies, permitting activities and community relations development for our Thunder Bay North Critical Minerals project.


The key tasks for the role are:


• Regularly assisting with and/or leading fieldwork related to the environmental baseline studies;
• Occasional assistance in field work related to geological and/or engineering studies;
• Report writing and preparation of scopes of work or justifications. This work may be alongside a team of consultants and contractors required to support eventual Environmental Assessments and permitting;
• Implement environmental inspections and mitigation plans, as applicable, from exploration through to project development / construction;
• Assist with implementation of an engagement plan and help maintain a social license to operate through working with Indigenous communities according to the highest industry guidelines and standards;
• Assist with implementation of an engagement plan with all other potentially affected stakeholders, including but not limited to, public, government, and non-government stakeholders;
• Reporting and assistance in completing the corporate ESG reporting profile;
• Participate in developing public engagement materials to support the project;
• Maintain meaningful relationships with the participating First Nations, non-proximate First Nations and Metis. This will be completed with a focus on education, skill development, training and jobs all with the intent of honouring true reconciliation;
• Coordinate external facing environmental and community related activities on behalf of the Clean Air Metals team.

• Participate in team meetings and planning, providing input into the environmental permits and design as the project advances towards a construction decision;
• Participate in meeting/exceeding ongoing Company Health and Safety and policy objectives;
• Promote and maintain a positive work environment through a culture of teamwork and cooperation for internal and external stakeholders; and,
• Other duties, as required by the role.


The successful candidate will possess the following:


• Have relevant education (diploma or degree) in one of the following: environmental engineering or science, geology, social science or another qualified field;
• Have a minimum of 3 years of experience working in the industry with demonstrated experience in environmental studies, permitting and community relations;
• Have familiarity in mining project development including applicable regulations such as the Mining Act, Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, Impact Assessment Act, etc.;
• Have working knowledge of geological processes and mining processes and infrastructure such as tailing deposition, waste rock, underground mining methods, milling, etc.;
• Demonstrated ability to work on multi-disciplinary project teams;
• Demonstrated experience working alongside First Nations communities and experience facilitating healthy relationships with Indigenous persons;
• Ability to work under pressure;
• Ability to travel, as needed;
• Ability to complete physical labour in inclement weather conditions, as necessary, to support fieldwork programs to support environmental studies;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Strong commitment to Health and Safety and ESG principles; and,
• Possess a valid Class G drivers license.
