Wesdome is a Canadian focused gold producer with two high grade underground assets, the Eagle River mine in Ontario and the recently commissioned Kiena mine in Quebec. The Company also retains meaningful exposure to the Moss Lake gold deposit in Ontario through its equity position in Goldshore Resources Inc. The Company’s primary goal is to responsibly leverage this operating platform and high-quality brownfield and greenfield exploration pipeline to build Canada’s next intermediate gold producer. SUMMARY
Reporting to the Chief Mine Geologist, the Resource Geologist will perform his/her duties as a team member of the Mine Geology department and collaborate with other departments of the Company. The Resource Geologist will be responsible for overseeing and guiding the Mine Geology team at Eagle River Mine with the creation of quality wireframes – both 3D lithostructural and mineralization, resource models, short-term grade control models, reconciliation, and regulatory reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DUTIES PERFORMED
Manage tasks and projects assigned to the position by the Chief Mine Geologist in collaboration with the Vice President of Exploration and Director of Geology.
Apply knowledge of sampling protocols, database management, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), 3D geological modelling, and applied geostatistics for resource estimation.
Use industry standard software packages such as Datamine Studio RM, Micromine Origin, Deswik.CAD, Seequent Leapfrog Geo and other modelling or geostatistical packages as required.
Analyze existing mineralization wireframes and resource model parameters to identify deficiencies or key areas for improvement in line with industry best practice and Wesdome Gold Mines standards and guidelines.
Review sampling protocols, databases, laboratory performance, and QAQC to provide feedback.
Assist the Mine Geology team with all aspects of Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves (MRMR) in accordance with National Instrument 43-101 (NI 43-101) rules and guidelines.
Produce a short-term grade control model process and aid with the development of a reconciliation process using cavity monitoring system (CMS) and mill data.
Participate in the review of reconciliation data to identify areas of mining or model non-performance.
Make recommendations to the Mine Geology team on diamond drilling campaigns for production, conversion, and exploration.
Guide the Mine Geology team with the review of 3 month planned stope shapes to ensure all opportunities/risks are assessed and highlighted to the Engineering team.
Participate in memo, process mapping, standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidelines, and technical reporting.
Plan and provide mentoring and training to the Mine Geology team in all aspects related to 3D geological modelling and applied geo-statistics for resource estimation.
Assist other Independent QPs and Consultants in the timely completion of NI 43-101 technical reports, preliminary economic assessments (PEA), pre-feasibility (PFS) and feasibility study (FS) reports related to any of the Company’s resources and reserves.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Geology or Earth Science program. Master of Science (M.Sc.) preferred.
Must be registered as a Professional Geoscientist in the province of Ontario (P.Geo.).
Experience with Datamine Studio RM, Micromine Origin, Deswik.CAD, Seequent Leapfrog Geo or other geological modelling software including block modelling and macro modules.
High attention to detail and QA/QC for all data used in estimations.
Sufficient experience in applied geo-statistics and block modelling related to structurally complex narrow vein hosted gold deposits.
Strong computer and data management skills.
Sound understanding of diamond drill planning, core logging, chip/channel sampling, muck sampling and QA/QC.
Experience using and/or interpreting various types of geological data.
Strong written and verbal communication.
Ability to work as part of a culturally diverse team.
High safety standards.
